GREENE COUNTY INDIANA RESOURCES
Piankeshaw Trails
Piankeshaw Trails Educational Park, Inc

Located 10 miles west of Bloomington in Greene County What we are: We offer frontier and Native American hands on Programs during the week for youth groups and school children from April through November. We host schools from a 17-county area. Our busy season is in the fall when we host dozens of schools and provide dozens of outreach programs in schools all over Indiana and Ohio. We have seasoned Trail Guides who present hands on interactive programs inviting area youth to participate in role playing skits, wigwam building, making arts, learning the culture of the Native Piankeshaw and Miami people.

History:
The Piankeshaw, Miami, Wea and Illinois tribes loyal to the French at Vincennes are beginning to be persuaded by English Traders to divide and come to the White River (Greene County) to establish a new village. The English are promising to build a fort among them and provide goods and arms. When some Piankeshaw kill 2 English traders in the area, those promises are not kept and the village that swelled to over 140 warriors with their families totally perhaps as many as 550 souls began to disintegrate. By the 1753 spring, many of the Piankeshaw returned to the Wabash region and Vincennes and kept this village only as a seasonal camp site until Americans arrived in the first decades of the 19th century. Join us for fun, excitement, history and an historical Walk in the Woods.

We have many participants coming from Evansville, Bloomington, Terre Haute, Indianapolis and St. Louis.
